Livingston Recreational District #2
FUNDING RENEWAL – April 27, 2024
On April 27, 2024, the Watson Community will decide if they wish to extend an existing 10-year, 15-mill tax dedicated to operating and improving the Community Recreation Park. This is the ONLY FUNDING SOURCE for Livingston Recreation District #2. This dedicated property tax supplies the revenue needed to operate, maintain, and improve the park. Without the passage of the tax, there would be NO recreation park in Watson for youth sports, community events, opportunities to exercise, and options to plan for future expansion. This is a RENEWAL of a property tax that has been on the books for over 20 years.
THIS IS NOT A NEW TAX!
A Vote of “YES”
A Vote of “NO”
Voting YES means you are in favor of extending the Recreation District’s 15-mill property tax for another 10 years. If the majority of voters decide to extend the funding, Livingston Parish Recreation #2 funding would be secure through 2034, allowing the recreation district to continue to serve our community.
Voting NO means, you are not in favor of extending the recreation district’s property tax for the next 10 years. If the majority of voters choose to reject the funding renewal, the recreation district would be in jeopardy of being unfunded by 2025, since this tax is the only dedicated funding source. If the renewal is rejected, the park would be adversely affected, and we would have to reduce hours and services beginning in 2024. If a new millage cannot be set and approved by voters, we would not have the funding to continue to operate and maintain the park, and the park would face shutdown and takeover by the parish. Any funding that has been saved for future expansions would be utilized by the parish to pay down current bonds to the extent possible.
